What lies beneath the ocean’s surface, and how do we map it?

Join marine geophysicist Dr. Vicki Ferrini for a journey through the evolution of ocean mapping, from early depth measurements and Marie Tharp’s groundbreaking work to today’s cutting-edge technologies. Discover how scientists are revealing the hidden landscapes of the seafloor, why these maps matter, and how the international Seabed 2030 project is working to map the entire ocean floor.

The presentation will be followed by audience Q&A.

About the Speaker
Dr. Vicki Ferrini is the Marie Tharp Senior Research Scientist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. She leads the Atlantic and Indian Oceans Regional Center of the Nippon Foundation–GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project, advancing global efforts to map the ocean floor and make seafloor data accessible.
